23 March 2009 – Belarus included into the Eastern Partnership Programme

On 20 March, at the meeting of the European Council in Brussels, leaders of the EU-27 decided to add Belarus to the list of the new Eastern Partnership Programme members, including Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine. To what extent Belarus should be included into the programme is still to be decided and will depend on the progress of democratic reforms in the country. On 7 May, leaders of the Eastern Partnership members will gather at the summit in Prague.
