Type of donor Federations, Unions
Country of donor European Union
Sector Citizenship, Civil society development, Education — Training, Human Rights, Information, Justice-Security
Program Description
The general objectives of the new financing instrument as defined by the EIDHR Regulation, are to contribute to the development and consolidation of democracy and the rule of law, and respect for all human rights and fundamental freedoms, within the framework of the Community’s policy on development cooperation, and economic, financial and technical cooperation with third countries, and consistent with the European Union’s foreign policy as a whole.
Main priorities and objectives
The global objective will be to enhance respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms where human security is most at risk and where human rights defenders are under most pressure. The aim is to contribute to improving the situation and bringing long term positive changes in these countries.

The specific objective is to support civil society organisations where they operate with difficulty and where there is little room for political pluralism with the view of promoting a holistic approach to human rights and embodying a pluralistic and non-discriminatory view of society.
