1. TACIS PROJECTS

EU – Enlargement and Foreign Direct Investments in Border Regions to the NIS (November 2006 – December 2007)

The project was funded by the European Union under the TACIS Cross-border Cooperation Programme

Aims:

  1. to facilitate cross-border economic development in the Brest region and attract foreign direct investments
  2. to create a positive image for the three-national and three-regional economic space on the Bug river.
     

Results:

Within the framework of the project, the three regions – the Volyn region (Ukraine), the Brest region (Belarus) and the Lubelskie Voivodeship – formed a common cross-border economic space named the Business Valley BUG, in order to offer foreign enterprises and investors focused allocation and comprehensive support in organisation of their businesses. Due to these services, enterprises can now benefit from individual “first-hand” approach to their problems and support of local authorities of the three regions, as well as from all location advantages of this geostrategic space between EU, Ukraine, Belarus and Russian Federation.

Successful example:

Development of Culinary heritage as a network and method for regional tourism development in the context of Euroregion 'Country of lakes'

The project was funded by the European Union under the Baltic Sea Region INTERREG IIIB INTERREG IIIA Priority South

Project duration: 16 months (May 2005 – August 2006)

Project budget: approx. 230 000 €

Aims:
To promote sustainable cross border tourism development in the territory of Euroregion 'Country of lakes' contributing to becoming a well-being region, improvement of tourism infrastructure and structure of employment, and improvement of life quality for local population:

  1. to develop new regional tourism products based on European Culinary Heritage concept in the territory of Euroregion 'Country of lakes';
  2. to maximise existing business potential in the tourism - related sector in the territory of Euroregion 'Country of lakes';
  3. to popularise Euroregion 'Country of lakes' as a well – known tourism destination place in Europe.

Results:

The project 'Discover the Country of Lakes' has been successfully finished September 1, 2006. As a result of the project, new cross border tourism routes 'Discover the Country of lakes' were elaborated and promoted. One of the most significant results is organisation of a gala cultural programme – a culinary heritage fair in the framework of international folk music festival.

Catalyzing sustainability of the wetland protected area system in Belarusian Polesie through increased management efficiency and realigned land use practices

The project is funded by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Global Environment Facility (GEF)

Project Duration: 5 years (2006 - 2011)

Successful example:

Euroregion Nioman: Dialogue free of Borders

Project “Euroregion Nioman: Dialogue free of borders” was financed under the Small Grants Program (now – Social Development Fund) of the World Bank in Belarus.

Lead Partner: NGO “Third Sector”

Implementation period: 2002

Aims:

Information exchange and cooperation between Belarus, Poland, Lithuania, and Russia.

Results:

The project created possibilities for developing cooperation between NGOs, mass-media, state authorities, businessmen of the euroregion Nioman (Belarus, Poland, Lithuania, Russia) by means of establishing of information exchange, weekly digest on transborder cooperation, and web-site. An important outcome of the project was organisation of an NGO Forum for 4 countries, collection of information on potential partners in 4 neighboring countries, expansion of possibilities for Grodno region NGOs to establish cross-boarder cooperation, promotion of Belarusian NGOs, public awareness increase on CSO role in the development.
